When I joined Blispay as an Operations Analyst, I was searching for a startup with a track record of early product and market achievements — not just based on performance benchmarks, but on a culture of grit, compassion, and vision.

Almost one year in, I couldn’t have made a better choice. As Blispay grows, I’ve seen the amazing things that happen when a passion for fintech innovation is combined with a deep emphasis on personal growth, work-life balance, and a welcoming, inclusive environment. And it seems I’m not the only one to take note: recently, the Baltimore Business Journal listed Blispay as one of Baltimore’s Best Places to Work.

The honor is the culmination of several years of hard work at a startup dedicated to making big moves in the consumer credit industry. It’s also testament to the opportunities I’ve had to personally learn and grow as a Blispay team member. As an employee only two years out of college, I’ve been able to work side-by-side with leaders whose experiences range from building new products at one of the world’s largest banks to managing Bill Me Later, a financial services success story that resulted in one of Baltimore’s biggest tech exits. I’ve had frank, open conversations about the company’s goals for democratizing financing for sellers of all sizes and empowering consumers with a better credit product — and then witnessed how new tech-enabled methods translate into a healthier business and a better customer experience. I’ve even relied on my coworkers for advice on big personal decisions, such as moving houses or finding a new roommate.

My experiences are just some of the many ways Blispay stands out in the Baltimore startup scene. As our company has matured, the entire team has taken our workplace philosophy and applied it to real, tangible policies and practices. When selecting us as a Best Place to Work, the Journal highlighted personal wellness perks like our unlimited paid time off, free lunches everyday, medical insurance coverage, and access to free resources like Burnalong’s fitness program. Meanwhile, our new Ladies of Blispay luncheon series helps create a supportive environment for women who participate in a fintech industry too often characterized by persistent gender imbalances.

But Blispay’s culture extends far beyond the office. For the past three years our company has become a sought-after destination for Fellows from Venture for America, a program dedicated to bringing tech talent to cities like Baltimore. This pipeline adds new voices and insights to help local neighborhoods thrive, all while introducing a whole new group of people to Charm City’s unique traditions and spirit. In fact, Blispay’s recruitment through VFA is the very reason I’m a proud Baltimorean today.

All of these elements add up to a resilient and fast-growing business, one that started just a few years ago and quickly grew to supporting hundreds of thousands of consumer transactions in every U.S. state. As Blispay expands, I know that our workplace will necessarily adapt to the needs of an ever-larger, ever more complex company over the next few years. But as my coworkers and I embark on that journey, I am confident that our foundations are strong enough to make Blispay a Best Place to Work for many years to come.
